Recently we have been asked to help with several English Setters in Ireland.  Through NO fault of their own these poor dogs have been either abandoned or taken into Pounds from which most of them would probably have ended up being put to sleep.

These are lovely dogs and are fully deserving of a loving home.

If you would like further information about adopting a dog from Ireland then please contact Mrs Jenny Penna.

TINY TINATINY TINA

Tina and her litter Sister Tess came over from Ireland in 2004.  They had been ISPCA cruelty cases. Both had been almost starved and kept confined without contact or any form of socialisation by their previous owner.

Before coming to English Setter Rescue hearing dogs for the deaf decide to try both Tina and Tess to access if they would be suitable at all for their training programme .  In both cases this turned out not to be so.

A long time owner of ES and many many rescues ES over those years, Gill and John Wollers  went to adopt Tina from the hearing dogs centre in December 2004. Must not forget Poppy their rescue ES who is sharing her home with Tina...

This is Gill's latest update on Tina...

Things going well here -
Tina has attended her 3rd training class and is now (thanks to the
sausages and garlic) beginning to pay attention!. Pops has been once and
decided she doesn't like it so stays home with John - she actually refused
to get into the car (dark and car ride - must be that awful noisy place
again). It was noisy as there are some 'problem' dogs but since they don't
think that little brown and white thing is a threat she is ignored - maybe
something to do with the fact that she spends a lot of time lying on her
back and encouraging everyone to scratch her tummy! As you might guess she
is very good at the down stay ! Everyone says she is really pretty and I
don't argue with that.

No spook moments in the woods anymore and last weekend she was allowed to
run free. It really was fantastic to watch - except where the river was
very flooded and she decided to go clambering across all the logs and bits
of rubbish that were blocking the flow. She then got stuck and we were
quite worried we would have to go in after her - or based on past history
I would have to go in after her! But we called and she worked her way back
and after a couple of nervous slips (we were nervous she wasn't) we got
her back onto dry land. She likes the ducks - they don't like her. After a
good rub down at home I though she would settle down for a sleep but she
shivered with cold (she does seem to feel the cold a lot) so I wrapped her
in a dry warm towel and she settled down on my lap. But it took ages for
her to get really warm again.

We are now close to 16kg and she ahs given up breakfast - she would circle
it and only eat it if Pops tried to eat it. So we gave up with the meal
and try to get treats down her - she loves Smackos but that is all - no
biscuits are acceptable. Funny as she ate 3 Bonios in the car when we
brought her home but she hasn't touched them since. We've tried lots but
apart from Smackos and Choc drops she really doesn't want to know.

In the house we still have accidents during the night as although she
makes her way to the kitchen she doesn't seem to know she has to alert us
to the fact she wants to go out. It she goes in the house we ignore it -
going outside gets lots of praise. Funny little thing - her history would
perhaps make us think she wouldn't like the dark but often she is to be
found fast asleep underneath John's desk (in the knee area) or tucked
away somewhere small and safe......
